  Zebra Dreamer

  We found this female lion resting on a sausage tree limb in the heat of the afternoon. While observing her and looking around if there were any other lions in the area a small group of zebra walked past in the distance. The mid afternoon heat waves caused the black and white markings on the zebras to shimmer making them indistinct as if in a dream. If a lion did dream about food, what would it be? Zebra?

  Heading to Water

  After an early morning nap, this lioness was thirsty and headed out from her boabab tree lookout strait to the nearby river.

  This is mine!

  Carnivores have to eat, yet I prefer not to show the blood and gore associated with many kills. In this case although the impala has perished, there is no visible sign of the awfulness of death. The immense strength of leopards to haul a carcass equal to its own weight 4 to 5 meters into a tree is an impressive show of power. Therefore the possessiveness displayed by the leopard is justifiable.

  Are you coming?

  Six young lions were moving around on their own and meeting up in the evenings with the adults in the pride. This young lion had ventured out on his own when it stopped to look back if any of its companions were following.

  When I grow up...

  This yearling lion was 100 meters from its mother peering intently over a low rocky outcrop at some passing zebra. I imagined his thoughts being "when I grow up I can get my own dinner"

  Little Brother
